International, Multigenerational Gathering to happen in June 2012.
A new generation of leaders is emerging worldwide among young adults who lived in care as children. Representatives from this new movement will gather on June 26-29 near Washington, DC, US to set an agenda for change and to start a conversation with senior officials worldwide on the consequences and impact of transition for youth in care.

The International Summit is a youth/adult partnership. It is being directed by young activists who have personally experienced being in care, with staff support from sponsoring organizations.

Message from Founding Leaders

Our vision is a world in which youth and adults realize the potential of youth-adult partnerships through education, connection, and inspiration, as a way of properly managing successful transition and fostering effective sustainable change.

What people are saying...

30 emerging leaders and 30 senior leaders from around the world will meet for an open and honest discussion around foster care issues that matter. I challenge and welcome you to become part of this piece of history.

By: Dorothy Ansell, Researcher & Consultant

In recent years we have begun to see the emergence of young leaders who have personally experienced out of home placements. Until now, this development has been happening in separate places. The 2012 Summit of Youth in Care will connect these young leaders from across the globe into a movement with enormous potential to challenge and to change current practices and policies.

I can't wait to meet all of the amazing people that will come together from around the world to fiercely advocate for quality care for youth. By coming together across borders we are celebrating the collective power of our voices. How can you beat that? :).

By: Ian Forber-Pratt, Founder Foster Care India

It’s an amazing opportunity to engage in international, intergenerational dialogue. I think in order to effect change in the child welfare system, we really need to engage groups of people and really think BIG! This is the perfect opportunity to do that.
